Artist Bio
Betty Heredia is a multimedia artist born and raised in Chicago, currently based in Philadelphia. While she works across a wide range of media, from sound and video to paint, Sharpies, and found or upcycled materials, she primarily identifies as an illustrator and storyteller. She is driven by a need to illustrate the ephemeral, following the principle of 'show, don't tell.'
Her interests lie in amplifying voices that aren't part of the mainstream dialogue. Her practice investigates who gets to say 'I was here,' how that story is told, how to record what disappears, and how to poke back at the machine.
She often draws and paints to sound, live DJ sets, or beat-making sessions. Her work combines comics, sound collage, and pop-historical symbolism.
She is currently re-imagining exhibit design, not as a tool for display, but as an art form in itself. She aims to deepen public love for museums and challenge the barriers that cultural institutions have inadvertently established.
Heredia holds an MFA in Museum Exhibition Planning and Design from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a BFA in Illustration from Columbia College Chicago. Her work has been exhibited at Philadelphia's City Hall, Philadelphia's Magic Gardens, Co-Prosperity Sphere in Chicago, and the Glass Curtain Gallery. She has also worked as a museum preparator, teaching artist, and radio producer, often combining those roles into a holistic storytelling practice.
